Adewale Adeoye attended the University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he read Philosophy; He later attended the University of Lagos where he bagged Masters Degree in Industrial and Labour Relations, (MILR);
Adeoye is an alumnus of the United Nations Institute of Training and Research, (UNITAR)He began journalism career in The Guardian, 1989; moved to The Punch as Assistant Features Editor and later Head of Investigation Desk;Later he joined The Nation Newspapers as Deputy Editor.
Adeoye in 2000 won the CNN African Journalists of the Year Award; he is four-time winner of the Nigerian Media Merit Award, (NMMA); recipient of the Diamond Award for Media Excellence, (DAME) and was the irst Nigerian to win the Steke Biko Scholarship managed by the Institute for Advanced Journalism, (AIJ) in South Africa and had a stint at Rhodes University in South Africa;
Adeoye has attended several training programs in Europe, Asia and across Africa including Nigeria on conflict prevention and peace building. Adeoye was former West Africa Regional Secretary, International Alliance of Indigenous and Tribal Peoples of the Tropical Forest, IAITPTF based in Chiang Mai, Thailand and had the mandate to represent West African Indigenous Peoples at the United Nations Permanent Forum.
He is the Executive Director, Journalists for Democratic Rights, JODER established in 1996 and a leading figure on human rights issues in Nigeria and Africa
